Well, hello there...

Welcome to Violin Evolution!

IMG_2554_edited.jpg

We are Libby Halbrook and Jessica Davis, two sisters who have been playing the violin together since we could barely walk, and we are the creators of Violin Evolution. We believe that learning to play the violin is something that should be available to everyone! After teaching private lessons for more than 20 years, we have realized that there is a need and a space to make private violin lessons more easily accessible: lessons on demand, if you will.

And so, Violin Evolution was born!

We are passionate about providing a thorough, quality, and engaging violin curriculum that allows anybody to learn to play at their own pace, in the comfort of their own home, and without being limited by schedule conflicts or the accessibility of an in-person private teacher.

Welcome! We hope you stay and look around, and we would love to be your virtual violin teachers!

About Us

Founder and Teacher Libby Halbrook

Libby Halbrook

Founding Partner and Teacher

Libby began playing the violin at age 3. With a grandfather, mother, and two older sisters who play violin, it seemed like it was just something they did in their family. Needless to say, family gatherings always involved a violin, with classical music, fiddling, and hymns all intertwined. A highlight of her childhood was going with the family to Japan to study with Dr. Suzuki for a week. Language barriers were definitely an issue for her young mind, but she was excited to learn that one of Dr. Suzuki's favorite phrases was "Cookie time!" And he used it often!

Libby has played in numerous musical groups, including wedding quartets, mariachi bands, pit orchestras, and more. She decided to add viola to her repertoire when she went to college at Brigham Young University. Currently, she plays viola with the Millennial Choirs and Orchestras with Jessica, the sassy 1st violinist.

Over the years, Libby has learned that music has a way of reaching others' hearts, whether it be through teaching, learning, or listening. And while learning an instrument requires patience and perseverance, it gives you so much more than just the skill of playing that instrument. This is why she loves teaching violin so much.

Libby enjoys living in Utah with her husband, Brandon, her six kids, and their two cats.

Jessica Davis

Founding Partner and Teacher

Jessica began playing the violin at the age of two, naturally wanting to follow in the footsteps of her three amazing older sisters, who all played the violin, and her mother, a gifted violin teacher. Her young childhood musical memories were filled with playing, performing, and fiddling with her mother and sisters in South Dakota, including at the Mount Rushmore lighting ceremony each evening throughout the summers there.

One of her cherished childhood memories was traveling to Japan with her family to study for a week with Dr. Shinichi Suzuki at his music school. She will always remember Dr. Suzuki's spunky charm and kindness in her lessons with him.

Jessica has been fortunate to play and perform in many delightful places around the world. Currently, along with maintaining a private violin studio, Jessica is a free lance recording artist and has played in various musical ensembles and orchestras, currently playing with the Millennial Choirs and Orchestras.

Jessica enjoys sharing her love of the violin with others through teaching. Playing a musical instrument has been one of the greatest means of making lifelong friends. In her experience, learning to play the violin, while fulfilling in and of itself, is also a meaningful way to share joy and beauty with others.

Jessica is married to her wonderful husband, Mark. They enjoy living in the mountains of Utah with their four beautiful children.
